The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Missouri State junior Carly Thomas has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Oct. 22 through Oct. 28.
A 5-11 setter from Swansea, Ill., Thomas turned in her third triple-double of the season over the weekend as she guided the Bears to victories over Bradley and Northern Iowa.
Against Bradley on Friday, the junior knocked down 10 kills on .381 hitting to go with 50 assists and 17 digs as she filled up her stat line in a 3-1 win. The next night she set the Missouri State offense to another 3-1 victory. This time it was over UNI, which suffered only its second Missouri Valley Conference loss since 2008. Thomas just missed another triple-double as she tallied eight kills, 19 digs and 47 assists.
For the weekend, Thomas averaged 12.13 assists, 2.25 kills and 4.5 digs per set. She also added a pair of aces and three blocks. She led the team in hitting percentage, digs and assists over the two matches.
The junior earned her second MVC Player of the Week honor of the season (and fifth overall) for her efforts. Thomas is the third player from Missouri State to earn the CVU.com weekly honor. The last was Cara Hackmann in 2009.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the tenth in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
