The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Morehead State senior Ellie Roberson has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Oct. 8 through Oct. 14.
A 6-2 right side hitter from Louisville, Ky., Roberson turned in back-to-back career matches in a pair of victories as the Eagles continued their tear and stayed undefeated in Ohio Valley Conference play.
With Morehead State down 2-0 at Jacksonville on Friday, Roberson led the way in the rally, turning in what was then her career-best offensive match as she drilled 28 kills with just three errors to hit .431 in the 3-2 comeback victory.
The next night, the senior did it again, coming through with her second-straight career match, this time hammering 32 kills on .500 hitting as the Eagles downed Tennessee Tech in four. The victories kept Morehead State perfect in the OVC and continued a 14-match winning streak.
For the week, Roberson averaged 6.67 kills per set on .464 hitting. She also added seven digs and four blocks. The Ohio Valley leader in kills at 4.28 per set, the right side earned her second consecutive OVC Offensive Player of the Week honor and her third this season. She is the first player from Morehead State to earn the CVU.com weekly honor and just the second from the Ohio Valley Conference.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the eighth in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
