The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that St. Mary's redshirt freshman Dalas Dodd has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Sept. 24 through Sept. 30.
A 6-1 setter from Manhattan Beach, Calif., Dodd set the Gaels to a trio of West Coast Conference wins, including upsets over a pair of teams ranked in the AVCA Top 25.
The week started out with a home sweep of Portland as St. Mary's was efficient on the attack, hitting .362 with Dodd dishing out 37 assists. She added three kills without an error as well as six digs and two blocks in the win.
Up next was No. 18 Pepperdine, and that match turned into a battle, going the distance as the Gaels pulled out a fifth-set victory. Dodd again turned in a balanced match — in addition to her 62 assists she added five kills (again without an error), 16 digs, three blocks and a pair of aces.
Finally, going up against undefeated No. 11 BYU, Dodd left the offense to her teammates, setting up 62 kills in the 3-1 victory as the Gaels scorched BYU for a .345 team percentage.
On the week, Dodd averaged 13.42 assists and 2.17 digs per set while chipping in nine kills, six blocks and six aces.
Dodd is the second Gael to receive the CVU.com weekly award. The first was Mandy Bible (2004).
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the sixth in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
