The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Tulsa senior Jessica Adams has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Sept. 17 through Sept. 23.
A 5-7 libero from Oklahoma City, Okla., Adams anchored the Golden Hurricane defense in three contests as it got off to a perfect Conference USA start.
In the league opener, the senior matched her career best, scooping up 31 digs as Tulsa rolled to a 3-1 victory over SMU. In the match, Adams surpassed the 2,000-dig mark for her career, a first at Tulsa. She's also just the sixth player in league history to reach that milestone.
Up next was Marshall, which for the match was held to just .091 hitting by the Tulsa defense. In the sweep, Adams picked up 21 digs while just missing a double-double as she also added eight assists and a pair of aces.
Finally, ending the week versus East Carolina, Adams again went better than 20 in the sweep as she elevated 23 digs and chipped in four assists. For the week, Adams totaled 75 digs and 12 assists for 7.5 dig and 1.2 assist per set averages, respectively.
For her efforts, the senior received her 12th-career Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week honor. Adams is the third player from the Golden Hurricane to receive the CVU.com weekly award. The last was Tyler Henderson in 2010.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the fifth in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
