The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Creighton senior Megan Bober has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Aug. 24 through Aug. 26.
A 6-0 setter from Murdock, Neb., Bober led the Bluejays to their first tournament title since 2006. She was named USF Invitational MVP for her efforts.
In the season opener against Central Florida, Bober filled up the stat sheet, handing out 36 assists while notching six kills of her own to go along with a defensive effort of 12 digs and five block assists. Creighton picked up a 3-1 victory to start the year.
Facing host South Florida in the next match, Bober just missed a triple-double as she added eight kills to her 22 assists and scooped up 14 digs in the sweep.
Then, in the Bluejays' finale versus Wisconsin, the senior complemented her 38 assists with another near triple-double, drilling 10 kills on .474 hitting as she handed out 38 assists to go with eight digs and two blocks.
For the tournament, Bober averaged 8.73 assists, 2.18 kills and 3.09 digs per set. Her efforts not only netted her Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week honors for the fourth time in her career, but led to Creighton receiving votes in the AVCA Division I Coaches Top 25 poll. It is the first time Creighton has received votes in a regular-season poll.
A 2010 CVU.com Stellar Spiker Honorable Mention, Bober is the first Bluejay to earn the CVU.com weekly honor.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the first in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
