The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Central Michigan's Kaitlyn Schultz has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Nov. 14 through Nov. 21.
A 6-4 senior from Highland, Mich., Schultz took home MVP honors at the Mid-American Conference Tournament, leading the Chippewas to their first MAC Tournament championship in school history.
To earn the crown, No. 6 Central Michigan started with an upset of No. 3 seed Western Michigan as Schultz tabbed 16 kills on .367 hitting with three blocks in the sweep. That was followed with a sweep of No. 2 Ohio, as Schultz registered another 13 kills on .545 hitting.
Then, in the tournament championship, the Chippewas went to the limit with No. 1 Northern Illinois, ultimately pulling out a 15-11 victory in set five. Schultz hit .500 in that matches, tallying another 15 kills and adding four blocks.
For the weekend, the middle averaged 4.0 kills per set on .462 hitting, with nine total blocks and four digs.
Schultz is the first Central Michigan player to earn the CVU.com weekly honor.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the thirteenth in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
