The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that UTSA sophomore McKenzie Adams has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Oct. 3 through Oct. 9.
A 6-3 middle blocker from Schertz, Texas, Adams had a record-setting week as the Roadrunners stayed undefeated in Southland Conference play.
At Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Adams helped UTSA to its fifth sweep in as many matches, recording nine kills, five blocks and four digs while hitting .467. But that was just a warm-up for Saturday's match at McNeese State.
Versus the Cowgirls, the sophomore was errorless on the attack, hammering 16 kills on just 21 swings to hit a school-record .762. Adams was equally impressive defensively, notching eight digs and six blocks as the Roadrunners swept their sixth-straight match — all conference wins. UTSA sits atop the Southland Conference at 6-0.
For the week, Adams hit .639 while averaging 4.17 kills, 2.0 digs and 1.83 blocks per set. She was named Southland Conference Offensive player of the week for her efforts. The middle is the first UTSA player to earn the CVU.com weekly honor and the second from the Southland Conference to pick up the award.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the seventh in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
