The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Arkansas State senior Cayla Fielder has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Sept. 26 through Oct. 2.
A 6-1 middle blocker from Jonesboro, Ark., Fielder provided the hot-hand offensively to lift the Red Wolves to a trio of Sun Belt victories and move them to 8-2 over their last 10 matches. In an early-week tilt, Fielder provided 12 kills on .647 hitting to go with a three digs and four blocks as A-State topped UALR in four. But, that was just a start as the senior's offensive numbers would climb. In the weekend's matches, Fielder started by hammering 22 kills on .462 hitting in a 3-1 victory over South Alabama, again adding three digs and four blocks. Then, in the week's finale, the middle scorched Troy, drilling 18 kills without an error to hit a career-best .750 while adding another three blocks. For the week, Fielder averaged 5.18 kills per set on .650 hitting, tallying 11 blocks and eight digs. For her efforts Fielder was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for the third time in her career. She is the first Arkansas State player to earn the CVU.com weekly honor. In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others.
