The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Robert Morris senior Hannah Veith has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Sept. 19 through Sept. 25.
A 6-3 middle blocker from Columbus, Ohio, Veith led the Colonials to a trio of road wins, including a 2-0 start in NEC play.
On Tuesday at Youngstown State, Veith had RMU's best blocking match in eight years, tabbing 12 blocks — including six in the fourth set — as the Colonials picked up a 3-1 victory. Veith also added 11 kills on only 15 swings to hit .667.
Then, to start conference play, Veith followed up with seven more blocks and 14 kills, this time hitting .632 to lead RMU to a 3-1 win at Long Island.
Finally, versus St. Francis (NY), the senior was without an error, notching 12 more kills and three more blocks in the sweep. For the week, Veith hit .596, averaging 3.36 kills and 2.0 blocks per set.
For her efforts, Veith picked up both NEC Player and Defender of the Week honors. She is also the first player from Robert Morris — and the NEC — to earn the CVU.com weekly honor.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the fifth in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
