The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Middle Tennessee State senior Izabela Kozon has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Sept. 6 through Sept. 12.
A 6-0 outside hitter from Warsaw, Poland, Kozon led the Blue Raiders to a 4-0 week and the title at the Middle Tennessee Invitational.
On the road at Kansas, Kozon helped get MTSU's week started with a sweep, hammering 16 kills to go with 10 digs and four blocks.
Back home at the Invitational, the senior kept things rolling, picking up a 12-kill, 12-dig double-double in a 3-1 win over Arkansas, and then following that with 18 kills, 12 digs and a .410 hitting pace in a 3-1 victory versus UAB.
In the tournament finale, Kozon turned in her best offensive match, drilling 18 kills on .531 hitting while adding eight digs and two blocks as the Blue Raiders swept Albany.
For the week, Kozon averaged 4.57 kills per set on .375 hitting to go with 3.0 digs per set. She picked up tournament MVP honors and also earned her second consecutive Sun Belt Player of the Week nod.
Kozon is the first player from Middle Tennessee State and the fourth from the Sun Belt Conference to earn CVU.com National Player of the Week honors.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the third in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
