The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Miami junior Katie Gallagher has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Aug. 30 through Sept. 5.
A 5-11 setter from Winter Park, Fla., Gallagher set the Hurricanes to a perfect weekend at the Blue Raider Bash and an overall 5-0 record on the week. To start the week, versus in-state foe Florida Atlantic, the junior guided Miami to a .460 team hitting percentage, tossing out 39 assists in the sweep. The Hurricanes opened the Blue Raider Bash with a sweep of Auburn and then went four against Southern Mississippi. In that win, Gallagher tallied 55 helpers as the team hit .301. The next match was nearly a triple-double for the junior as she notched seven kills on .583 hitting to go with 49 assists, 11 digs and three blocks as Miami downed Georgia Southern in four. Finally, the Hurricanes wrapped up with a victory against host Middle Tennessee State, in which Gallagher had 47 assists, nine digs and three kills on .600 hitting. For the week, the junior setter had 15 kills on .438 hitting, averaged 12.0 assists and 2.28 digs per set and added nine blocks. As a team, Miami hit .300 through the five matches. Gallagher earned all-tournament and ACC Player of the Week honors for her efforts. She is the second Miami player to earn CVU.com National Player of the Week honors. In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches.
