The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Wichita State senior Emily Stockman has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Sept. 7 through Sept 13.
A 6-0 outside hitter from Colorado Springs, Colo., Stockman led the Shockers to four victories last week and the title at the Mizuno Invitational II at Rice University as Wichita State improved to 9-1 on the season.
First, in an early week match against Oral Roberts, the senior notched 12 kills on .385 hitting to go along with six digs, three blocks and an ace. Then, to open the tournament, Stockman tallied seven kills without an error as she hit .500 in a sweep of Harvard. She also added 11 digs, four more aces and two blocks.
Stockman turned in double-doubles in the next two matches as the Shockers won both 3-1. First, they handed South Carolina its first loss of the year with Stockman drilling 18 kills to go with 16 digs and three blocks. Finally, in a victory against host Rice, the senior tabbed 17 more kills, 20 digs, an ace and a block.
En route to earning tournament MVP honors, Stockman averaged 3.93 kills and 3.79 digs per set, hit .304 and had seven aces and nine blocks on the week.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the third in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
