The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce its selection of Washington's Sanja Tomasevic as the 2005 CVU.com National Player of the Year.
A senior from Uzice, Serbia & Montenegro, Tomasevic led the Huskies to not only the Pac-10 title, but also to the National Championship.
Tomasevic, a 6-1 outside hitter, averaged 4.5 kills per game while hitting .351 on the season.
After being granted a fourth year of eligibility by the NCAA, and after playing in only 71 games last season, Tomasevic played in 106 of the Huskies' 108 games on her way to earning Pac-10 Player of the Year honors.
Although her kills per game were down slightly from the past two seasons, Tomasevic's efficiency was a career high and ranked seventh on Washington's all-time season records list.
For her career, Tomasevic holds plenty of school bests, as during the season she became the Huskies' career kills leader (1,795), career attempts leader (4,388), career kills per game leader (4.57) and finished seventh for career hitting percentage (.291).
In addition to her hitting, Tomasevic excelled in other areas. She had 33 service aces on the season, giving her 156 for her career, also a Washington record. On defense, Tomasevic finished third all-time in digs per game with 3.10. She also had her best season blocking, tallying 118 total blocks to give her 373 for her career, fourth all-time at Washington, and a 0.95 blocks per game average.
Behind Tomasevic, Washington finished with a 32-1 record, a Pac-10 title and it's first-ever National Championship, sweeping Nebraska in the title-match.
